The region population were nomads from around Jabel Saghrou Mountain that chose to settle permanently in the many existing oasis since the 19th century. It was after the Battle of Bougafer in 1933 that the country witnessed the resistance of the people of the region, who fought fiercely against the European colonies. Since then its tribal law disappeared and was quickly replaced by constitutional law. Alnif is a reference area for geologists and archaeologists, to the particularity of its geological history. It is a very interesting place to scientists and adventure lovers as it provides the chance of quite a few pleasant excursions.
